The Big Easy. The Crescent City. The City That Care Forgot. NOLA. New Orleans, the city that by any other name would still be as sweet. A blue city in a red state. Also a blues city and a jazz city. The city where jazz began it’s marathon swim up the Mississippi so many years ago to Chicago and points beyond. I love new Orleans. The majority of my street photography has been taken here and in an other favorite city, San Francisco.
The photos in this series were shot in 2022 and 2023 inside or near the French Quarter which has undergone a significant change since Katrina in ‘05, not necessarily for the good. Let’s face it, many cities today aren’t holding up so good either as income disparity has it’s inevitable consequences.
The artists and musicians, the service workers, the people who make the Quarter the Quarter can’t afford the rents here anymore, but nevertheless manage to hangout or work here every day. Add in a crazed mob of tourists, locals who still love to costume up before hitting the streets and maybe a religious zealot or two, and you have what I like to think of as a Disneyland for street photographers.
I have twenty years of existing content plus new content all the time of this photogenic city and plan to regularly update so that there will always be something new. I invite you to return.
